Our InTouch Runtime runs as an application because we need to match the execution context of InTouch, which also runs as an application. We used to support running as a service but we experienced quite a few support issues so we removed it due to the limitations of the toolkit we use to receive alarms. We're likely not going to revist this until a newer toolkit is available from AVEVA.
You can move the runtime into the Windows Startup folder and it will start whenever you login to Windows, I realize this isn't the same as running as a service but you will need to login to run InTouch regardless.
